Commercial Landscaper Registration Information

The Glen Ridge Police Department is asking all Glen Ridge residents to confirm that their private commercial landscapers have registered and received permits for all of their trucks.

Colored permits for a particular year should be affixed to the front bumper of all trucks and all commercial landscapers are required to register annually by September 30 for the fall season and next year's summer season.

Any commercial landscaper that holds a State of New Jersey landscaping permit is not required to pay the $50.00 fee.

All residents are encouraged to ensure that their landscapers are registered with the Police Department and have the proper permits affixed to all trucks.

This permitting allows the Glen Ridge Police Department to provide landscapers a copy of ordinance 5.40 (Commercial Landscapers) as well as a copy of ordinance 9.14 (Noise Control).

Please assist the Glen Ridge Police Department by discussing the permitting process with your commercial landscaper.

Commercial landscapers can respond to the Glen Ridge Police Department Record Bureau Monday-Friday between 8:00am and 4:00pm to register for the current year.

Recycling Makes Dollars And Sense!

It has been estimated that one-third of Glen Ridge households still do not recycle, even though single stream dramatically simplifies the process.

What this means is a needless squandering of precious taxpayer dollars. The Borough pays to have both garbage and recycling collected. It also pays to dispose of the garbage. Recyclables, however, are sold.

So, more recycling = less garbage = tax dollars saved.

Since the town greatly expanded its list of recyclables in January 2010, there has been only a relatively modest 30% increase in the amount of recycling collected.

Nonetheless, in a year's time that increase represented a savings of approximately $30,000.00. Nowadays, fully 60 to 70% of all household refuse can be recycled. If we could reach that benchmark in Glen Ridge, imagine the money we could save. Recycling? It only makes dollars and sense.

Most of us think we know all the items now eligible for recycling. But, do we? Award-winning filmmaker Megan Giulianelli and a talented group of RAS students have made a remarkable film, featuring Principal Mike Donovan, about all the nuanced dos and don'ts of recycling in Glen Ridge.

So, are you smarter than a 5th grader? Challenge your knowledge of recycling by viewing "Adventures in Single Stream Recycling."

Monthly Electronic Recycling & Freecycling

In addition to weekly curbside recycling, Glen Ridge also offers important monthly programs:

  • Electronic Recycling (anything with a plug!) is available on the second Saturday of each month at the Town Yard, 122 Carteret Street, from 9:00am to 1:00pm. Items with Freon (refrigerators and air conditioners) and large electronic items can also be picked up by the Borough on Wednesday mornings by prearranged appointment. Call 973-748-8400 ext. 225 to make arrangements.

  • Freecycle is a very popular option which allows residents to list unwanted but usable items on the town's website before placing them at curbside on the evening before each bulk-waste pick-up day (the first Thursday of every month).

For updates on all the borough's recycling programs, check the town's website at www.glenridgenj.org.
